...but weddings only happen at night

...but weddings have to have dancing
...but weddings have wedding food
...but weddings "only happen at night"

Don't worry, I haven't (yet) been assaulted with questions and complaints by family and friends who disagree with my wedding choices... it was the groom that didn't quite "get" the idea of having a wedding in the morning rather than at night. I loved the idea of a casual brunch and had a bit of explaining to to in order to flip some of his more traditional views over to my side:

...but we can have dancing
...but wedding food isn't anything more than the food you serve at a wedding- hot, cold, dinner, or lunch!
...but that's so not true. "I know that most people like to have their weddings at night and serve dinner before dancing the night away, but I think that a brunch wedding will just be more relaxed, more delicious (yum, breakfast food!), and more us. I mean, we do all of our favorite things in the morning (running, hiking, swimming, cycling) ...and you go to bed at 9:00 most nights, why are you insisting that we need to have the wedding then?"

Then the kicker:

...but it will be so much less expensive

And with that, we decided to go with a brunch wedding :).

How did you decide when your wedding would take place?

I absolutely love the idea of a brunch wedding!! I've been on a brunch kick lately anyway. We didn't have a lot of choice - our venue was only available after 5PM, so we had ours at 6. I've known a lot of people who've had 2 or 3PM weddings and they are very nice, can go with just finger foods, etc. but they just seem "regular" to me. A morning wedding seems really special and more unique. Excellent choice!

We had an evening wedding in large part because we wanted the flexibility to have a leisurely morning and afternoon. We didn't have "wedding food," though; we had lots of hors d'oeuvres instead of seated, plated dinner, and it was a huge success.

Definitely do what makes you both say "yes! this is so *us*!"

Our church only offered two wedding times -- neither of which were conducive to a brunch reception. And since I wanted plenty of time to get ready in the morning (leisurely breakfast with my girls, hair and dressing without (much) rushing, etc) we went with the later ceremony option.

We also did a combination cocktail and food stations reception, which was perfect because people could mingle, weren't forced to sit in the same place for an hour or more, and allowed everyone to eat what they wanted and have more fun! Plus, it was cheaper than a sit-down meal.

We had an early evening wedding beacuse that is what the venue had open on that date! We had a lot of out of town guests so it was easier for them to get there in the early evening also.
I love the brunch idea, the food options are so much more open!!

I think a brunch wedding is a seriously fabulous idea, one which I considered. But do to so much of our family being way out-of-towners we turned our event into a weekend thing and went with the traditional dinner + dancing.

We had a morning ceremony and then our reception started at 12pm due to the price being $10 less per person(we had 80 guests) so even though i had to get up at 4am to start getting ready i didnt care because i was saving $800 lol.

@Gloria~ Amen to that! There's nothing like the thought of saving $$ to get me jumping out of bed in the morning (Black Friday, anyone?). I do get up at 5:30 anyway so it's not really a big deal :).

My wedding was more of a party (at our home) - less of a traditional wedding (though were were 'married' on the day) - we wanted to serve dinner from our favorite Himalayan restaurant - so we started around 4/5 pm - did the ceremony and went right into dinner.

Our decision came down to two things. Our ceremony spot is a gorgeous outdoor setting with amazing sunset views and we LOVE wine. No choice but to go with an evening party. Can't wait! It's almost here!
